Since the beginning of its operations in the intermodal industry in 2005, when the company launched the first container train, PCC Intermodal SA has been adhering to the principle that says: “to develop in the long term, act honestly, logically, safely, and your consistency and determination will lead you to the set goal.”
Given the changes in the environment, the concerns related to the outbreak of the pandemic and the socio-political tensions, the company has written down its principles and operating strategy in the form of a short document to serve as a permanent point of reference for the management team, to leave no doubt, and to constitute a certain, stable element in the face of the dynamically changing reality, both close and distant, of the company’s environment.
The company’s immediate environment includes, among others, its
– employees; investors; – subcontractors; – business partners; – customers; – local communities; – public institutions, public benefit institutions, advisory and analytical organizations
In its ongoing relationships with all interest groups, both short- and long-term, the company will consistently adhere to the principles of honesty and logic in all areas of its operations. Its projects and processes will always prioritize the safety of individuals, the environment, and operations. It will pursue its actions with consistency and determination, which will serve as the foundation for a sense of confidence, stability, and reliability, both within the organization and its immediate surroundings.
Rail transport is one of the most environmentally friendly methods of transport. According to calculations by experts from the European Environment Agency, average CO2 emissions per tonne-kilometre (tkm) are:
in rail transport
in road transport
This means that by switching from road to rail, you will reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 124,2 g less CO2 per tonne-kilometer*.

THINK INTERMODALLY, CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT WITH US
Millions of tons of CO2 are released into the atmosphere every day. Transport is one of the factors contributing to the rise in air pollution, but by making responsible choices today, you can start changing this! It’s simple: think intermodal! Choose the most eco-friendly mode of transport and the optimal connection for your supply chain.

RAILWAY over long distances
One intermodal train = approximately 40 fewer trucks on the road, which translates into tons of reduced CO2 emissions. PCC Intermodal operates approximately 5,000 such trains annually. That’s why providing intermodal solutions is so important to us! We’re thrilled with every load we’ve managed to transfer from truck to train. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating, contributing to a cleaner world, safer roads, and a better future.
In 2024 alone, PCCI customers using intermodal solutions will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by over 460,000 tons.
It takes one tree a year to offset 6 kg of CO2 emissions. To offset 1 ton of CO2, we need 166 trees!
By offering intermodal solutions to its customers, over the past 15 years PCC Intermodal has removed nearly 330 million trees.
INTERMODAL – HOW WE DO IT
The first step is loading a container, which is then transported by truck over a short distance of approximately 150 km between the loading point and the rail terminal. The loaded container is “dropped” from the truck onto the terminal and then travels by train to the terminal nearest the delivery point. This is the point where our work is most efficient, as 90% of the distance is covered by train. Upon arrival at the final terminal, the container is picked up again and transported by truck over a distance of approximately 150 km to the unloading point.

HOW ELSE CAN YOU TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT?
The best way is to act wisely and logically. Take only what you need. Don’t waste it!
During our daily activities (e.g. shopping, moving around, preparing meals, cleaning), we can have an impact on the environment and live in harmony with nature.
By making responsible choices, we reduce pollution, save our natural resources, and contribute to a better and safer life.
save water
choose public transport
segregate garbage
plant a tree
turn off the light
respect nature
give up disposable bags
give things a second life
